really that’s not an excuse anymore. don’t give me that whole “i’m only one person” sob story, there are millions of ways you can contribute to helping fight the fight for our animal friends. i know it’s hard to know where to start and what is actually out there but here’s a pointer for you environmental enthusiasts: check out www.wwf.org.au the official site for the World Wildlife Fund. there is plenty of info about what is going on the the animal kingdom including the big issues, and probably lots that you didn’t even know existed, as well as many ways to contribute you time, effort, dollar and voice to many worthy causes. it’s a great starting point for anyone who wants to take that first step towards giving something back to the world as it’s so easy to navigate through and provides some great links to other reputable organisations that can help you help the world! so what are you waiting for? those endangered species aren’t going to save themselves!

Don’t let the title fool you. There’s nothing delicious about the abuse of animal and as a partial observer to animal rights protests I was shocked to find the extent of which animal abuse occurs–right in my own bucket of chicken. My journey of discovery into the rights of animals had a profound effect on me from the word go with the realisation that nobody’s hands are clean–even the colonel himself has alot to answer for.

  I am a keen eater of meat, but as such do not enjoy the thought of my food dying a slow and rather painful death in what appears to be a type of ghetto designed for livestock. Chickens that are killed by Kentucky Fried Chicken are usually escaping a nightmare when they finally meet the deep fryer as by the time they do their legs are most likely to be crushed, their wings are probably broken–all due to the small confines of their cage.

  However, it appears that perhaps the environment that they are contained in are they only threat to chickens. Undercover reports from PETA-associated Kentucky Fried Cruelty (www.kentuckyfriedcruelty.com) has reports and allegations that links the fast-food giants employees with systematic abuse of their livestock. Reportedly, chickens have had their faces spray painted, have had their necks stomped on and in one reported instance, tabacco being spat in their eyes–all due to the process in which the chickens are handled, without safeguards and consideration to their own comfort.

  So, the next time someone asks you to give the colonel a slice of your income, why not spit in his eye? Although I’m sure he’ll be fine–he’s not confined to a cage smaller than the average chicken.

It may come as a surprise to learn where some of the cute pet-store puppies have come from. A puppy breeding “farm” (ACA Breeders) raise their puppies in appalling conditions. The animals sleep on concrete floors with nothing but a plastic drum for shelter.

In a manner somewhat similar to battery hens, the dogs are kept in small enclosures for the purpose of breeding. No love, no playtime, just breeding and producing puppies like a factory. As soon as they are sexually mature, they are put straight into breeding – Once one litter is delivered, the female is set up for another pregnancy straight away.
