Puppy Farm

March 20, 2008

It may come as a surprise to learn where some of the cute pet-store puppies have come from. A puppy breeding “farm” (ACA Breeders) raise their puppies in appalling conditions. The animals sleep on concrete floors with nothing but a plastic drum for shelter.

In a manner somewhat similar to battery hens, the dogs are kept in small enclosures for the purpose of breeding. No love, no playtime, just breeding and producing puppies like a factory. As soon as they are sexually mature, they are put straight into breeding – Once one litter is delivered, the female is set up for another pregnancy straight away.

“FACTS
In Australia we kill approximately 160,000 dogs every year because they are homeless, lost or abandoned. 350 unwanted dogs killed each and every day. The problems that cause animals to end up in shelters are preventable and the solutions are in our hands.”
